Officer Elections

Officer Elections for 2009-2010

Elections for new officers for the 2009-2010 term will be held at the April General Council Meeting on April 1st, 2009 at 5:30pm in 50-220. Nominations will open at the March General Council Meeting on March 4th, 2009. Information on the current nominations is included below, following a brief description of each position. For more general descriptions of the Officer positions, please visit our Officers Information Page.

The Election Letter and the Election Protocol Document define the rules and regulations of the Officers Elections. GSC Representatives are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the voting procedure and the election ballot information before the Election General Council Meeting.

Nominations will open at the March GCM, March 4th 2009, and close at 5:00 pm on March 25th, 2009.

New GSC Representatives must submit their application prior to March 18th, 2009 in order to gain voting privileges at the Officers Election.

Executive Committee Chairs Elections for 2009-2010

The Association of Student Activities will be holding its elections on: April 6th, in TBA.

The Housing and Community Affairs committee will be holding its elections on: March 11th, 2009 at 6:00pm, in 50-220.

The Activities committee will be holding its elections on: March 31st, 2009 at 6:00pm, in 50-220.

The Orientation committee will be holding its elections on: March 31st, 2009 at 5:00pm, in 50-220.

The Academics, Research and Careers committee will be holding its elections on: April 7th, 2009 at 6:00pm, in 50-220.

President

The President is the chief officer of the GSC and is ultimately responsible for carrying out its mission. The President is the principal liaison to the MIT Senior Administration and the MIT Corporation, as well as any bodies external to MIT.

Vice-President

The Vice-President assists the President in carrying out the GSC's mission. The Vice President is the primary liaison to departments and Departmental Student Groups, and coordinates the GSC Nominations Committee, which provides student representation on Institute Committees.

Secretary

The Secretary is responsible for communications with the general student body, and for the Graduate Student Newsletter. The Secretary also oversees the GSC mailing lists and the GSC website.

Treasurer

The Treasurer is responsible for the finances of the GSC, and for setting up a budget for its activities. The Treasurer coordinates the GSC Funding Board, which allocates funds to student groups. The Treasurer is the principal liaison to student groups and interacts most closely with the Association of Student Activities.
